What is Kundalini Energy?
Kundalini refers to an energy that resides in the human body at a subtle level, a manifestation of the universal energy better known as shakti.
In particular, Kundalini would correspond to the “generative force”.
Kundalini, in its latent state, resides at the base of the spinal column above a plexus that corresponds to the lowest of the chakras, generally called mulādhāra, and in particular in the sacrum.
It is traditionally represented by a sleeping serpent, coiled around the base of the spine in three and a half turns. Its name derives from the word Kundala, which means coiled, rolled, spiral-shaped.
Since ancient times, the snake has been considered a symbol of transformation, thanks to its ability to shed its skin, and has been associated with physical and spiritual well-being and enlightenment.
Kundalini is light, it is like the intense glow of a young and powerful lightning, it is sound, it is Mantra, its sweet whisper is similar to the confused buzzing of swarms of bees in love, it produces melodious poetry.
According to yogis, this energy must be awakened and made dynamic through sadhana (practice of discipline) and pushed into the central direction, called Susumna or Shusumna, in the subtle physiology of the three main nadis of the human body, so as to rise up the upper chakras to the top of the skull.
Along its path, Kundalini passes through the chakras, awakening and purifying them.
Having reached the seventh chakra, called Sahashrara or also “thousand-petaled lotus”, it completes its awakening, bringing the individual to the state that is commonly defined as self-realization or awakening according to Indian tradition.
The rise of this energy would allow one to experience, in full awareness, new states of consciousness and would usually be accompanied by a series of particular phenomena that can be physical, sensorial, perceptive.
